Watch the moment Verstappen sends the Zandvoort crowd wild as he takes pole for the Dutch GP
The Dutch fans have waited 36 years for a home Grand Prix, and even longer for a homegrown driver who is in a position to fight for Formula 1 victories, but so far this weekend the Zandvoort crowd are in dreamland as Max Verstappen took a brilliant pole position on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Bull racer had looked quick all weekend at the revamped circuit, and crossed the line to take provisional pole in Q3 – but Mercedes pair Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton were behind on track and yet to complete their laps. But the fans need not have worried – neither could better Verstappen's time, leading to a huge roar from the grandstands.
