WATCH: Schumacher and Vettel first to hit the wall in first practice at Paul Ricard
The French Grand Prix weekend got under way on Friday morning with the first practice session at the Circuit Paul Ricard, and Mick Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel were testing the limits early on in FP1.
First Schumacher spun at Turn 3 before kissing the wall as he came to a stop in his Haas - barely a minute into the session - before Vettel had a big spin at Turn 11 and clouted the barriers, his Aston Martin then stuck in neutral before he managed to get going again and limped back to the pits.
Those two were the first in the barriers, but AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda also had a low-speed spin at the final corner - though he kept it out of the walls - while midway through the session Carlos Sainz spun his Ferrari at Turn 2, but managed to scrub off enough speed to avoid the barriers.
Valtteri Bottas also had a moment as he ran wide over the Turn 2 kerbs, damaging his Mercedes' front wing in the process.
See Vettel's hit above, and Schumacher's incident in the video below.
