ROAD TO F1: Lundgaard becomes fourth new F2 winner of the season in Sprint Race

The Formula 2 Championship remains wide open with Renault junior Christian Lundgaard becoming the fourth new winner this season, and the third rookie to do so, taking his maiden win in the Sprint Race on Sunday.

The Danish racer propelled off the line from third when the lights went out, getting ahead of his ART team mate Marcus Armstrong, before lunging ahead of reverse polesitter Dan Ticktum a lap later. From there, he never looked like handing back the lead.

Feature Race front-two Robert Shwarztman and Yuki Tsunoda endured the same misfortune in the Sprint Race, both suffering retirements in the opening laps.

Mick Schumacher’s frustrating star to the season continued, as the fire extinguisher in the Ferrari junior’s PREMA accidentally went off, ending his race in the bizarre circumstances.

Despite his DNF, Shwarztman hangs on to the Championship lead with 48 points, five ahead of Lundgaard and Ferrari junior Callum Ilott, who finished fifth.
