Qualifying in Monte Carlo could not have been any closer, with Max Verstappen grabbing pole at the death, edging out Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso by just 0.084s. That was after Verstappen's Red Bull team mate Sergio Perez had crashed out in Q1.
And there was more drama after the session, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc demoted from P3 to P6 on the grid for impeding McLaren's Lando Norris, leaving the second scarlet car of Carlos Sainz to line up on row two alongside Esteban Ocon, who bags his first top-three start for Alpine.
