Prior to filming the movie, were you a fan of Formula 1?
Javier Bardem: I wasn’t a huge racing fan – I barely know how to drive a car! [laughs] But in order to research for this job, I watched some documentaries, like Drive to Survive, and read about it, and I got very interested in it, especially what it takes to put a driver into a car.
Then when I read the script, I was absolutely drawn into that world because of the quality and quantity of detail that really made you understand every aspect involved in that world, and technically, visually, I knew it was going to be tremendous because of the people involved.
