HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the action from the Spanish GP as Piastri wins while Verstappen and Russell collide

Oscar Piastri won a Spanish Grand Prix that was dominated by strategy calls and a late Safety Car period, crossing the line ahead of his team mate Lando Norris and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

The Australian executed a strong start and controlled the race throughout, his biggest concerns being tyre management and charging through traffic until the Safety Car made an appearance while Kimi Antonelli’s car was recovered following a major mechanical failure.

With Verstappen resorting to hard tyres after his fourth pit stop, he was unable to pass second-placed Norris at the restart and lost out to Leclerc before making bizarre contact with George Russell. Ahead, Piastri was able to confidently keep his rivals behind for the remainder of the race to claim his fifth win of the season.

Despite his run-in with the Dutchman, George Russell ultimately took home P4 while Verstappen dropped back to P10 with a 10-second time penalty for the incident. Just behind, a rapid Nico Hulkenberg got the better of Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari late in the race to secure P5.

Isack Hadjar claimed points once again in P7 while Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso rounded out the top 10 ahead of the penalised Verstappen.

Elsewhere, it was a home race to forget for Carlos Sainz as he failed to score, with Williams experiencing their least competitive round of the season so far. Alex Albon was forced to retire after a tense battle with Liam Lawson, which earned him a 10-second time penalty, ended with front wing damage.
