Grosjean hit with Sepang grid drop for pit lane infraction
Lotus’s Romain Grosjean has been docked two grid positions for failing to leave the pit lane correctly during the Q2 segment of qualifying in Malaysia.
According to the race stewards, the Frenchman “failed to leave the pit lane in the order of his arrival” - a breach of Article 23.6 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations which states that “any car(s) driven to the end of the pit lane prior to the start or re-start of a practice session must form up in a line in the fast lane and leave in the order they got there unless another car is unduly delayed.”
Grosjean went on to finish eighth in Q3, meaning he will now drop to tenth on the grid, allowing Williams’ Valtteri Bottas and Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson to move up to eighth and ninth respectively.
