Button a non-starter in Bahrain

Jenson Button’s difficult Sakhir weekend came to a premature conclusion on Sunday with news that further technical problems on his McLaren will prevent him starting the 2015 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.

Button had a tough Friday, with his car spinning on his first flying lap of FP1 due to a battery problem, and later stopping early on in FP2 when his engine was shut down as a precaution.

His misfortune continued on Saturday as his MP4-30 stopped in qualifying before he’d even set a lap time. This time it was an electrical fault.

And shortly before Sunday’s race it became clear the former champion would not make it to the grid, with McLaren revealing that during fire-up, data indicated an issue originating from his earlier electrical problems.

It would have been Button's 100th Grand Prix start for McLaren.
