Alpine announce Mike Elliott as Chief Technical Officer

Alpine have announced that Mike Elliott is joining the team as Chief Technical Officer, marking his return to Formula 1 after leaving Mercedes towards the end of the 2023 season.

Elliott brings a wealth of experience to the position, having worked in the sport across 23 years since first becoming an aerodynamicist for McLaren back in 2000.

He went on to progress to other roles within the team before moving to Renault in 2008, remaining with the Enstone-based outfit until 2012 when he joined Mercedes.

After taking on the position of Head of Aerodynamics, the Briton would later become Technology Director from 2017 to 2021 and then Technical Director between 2021 and 2023.

He subsequently swapped roles with James Allison in 2023 to become Chief Technical Officer, before his departure was announced six months later.

In a statement confirming his appointment at Alpine, the team stated that Elliott will “oversee the technical and engineering functions at the team's factory at Enstone” in his new position, adding: “He has a proven track record in the sport, having contributed to an impressive eight Constructors' and eight Drivers' Championships.

“Elliott's arrival at Enstone strengthens the team's technical capabilities as the team looks to build on the improved performances on track and close the gap to the top four teams.”
