The top of the timing sheets was as expected for Free Practice 3 at the Spanish Grand Prix, with the Mercedes duo at the head of the field, Lewis Hamilton heading Valtteri Bottas, with Max Verstappen slotting into P3 as he has done in all three practice sessions so far this weekend – although the Red Bull driver did usefully reduce the gap to the Silver Arrows ahead of qualifying to around half a second.
Less expected, though, was the crash late on in the session for Esteban Ocon as the Renault driver spun into the wall between Turns 3 and 4 to avoid Kevin Magnussen’s Haas, which brought out the red flags.
